Bentley Continental T Mulliner Seen in London for Gumball 2016, With a Funny Licence Plate....

Image
The Bentley Continental T or R was a large, ultra exclusive, luxury coupé made by Bentley from 1991 to 2003. It was the first Bentley to feature a body not shared with a Rolls-Royce model since the S3 Continental of 1965, the first to use the GM 4L80-E transmission, and the fastest, most expensive, and most powerful Bentley of its day. It was also the most expensive production car in the world at launch. A convertible derivative, the Bentley Azure, was launched in 1995 Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 The 6.75 L Garrett-turbocharged engine from the Bentley Turbo R was chosen for use in the Continental R. In early cars (1991 - 1993) power output of 325 hp (242 kW) at 4000rpm and peak torque of 450 lb·ft (610 N·m) at 2000rpm was available, although this was always estimated, as, at that time, Rolls-Royce still had a policy of not supplying official figures, preferring to describe simply as "adequate" or "suff...

Classic Rally Car. Renault 5 Turbo 2 Seen at "Heart and Carburetor" Meeting in Turin, Italy

Image
Pretty Little White Thing Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 In response to Lancia's rallying success with the mid-engined Stratos, Renault's Jean Terramorsi, vice-president of production, asked Bertone’s Marc Deschamps to design a new sports version of the Renault 5 Alpine supermini. The distinctive new rear bodywork was styled by Marcello Gandini at Bertone. Although the standard Renault 5 has a front-mounted engine, the 5 Turbo featured a mid-mounted 1397 cc Cléon-Fonte turbocharged engine placed behind the driver in mid-body in a modified Renault 5 chassis. In standard form, the engine developed 160 metric horsepower.  Though it used a modified body from a standard Renault 5, and was badged a Renault 5, the mechanicals were radically different, the most obvious difference being rear-wheel drive and rear-mid-engined instead of the normal version's front-wheel drive and front-mounted engine. At the time ...

Fiat 500 A Barchetta by Nuccio Bertone. 1936-1947. Museo dell' Automobile, Turin, Italy. Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 This is a Fiat 500 Barchetta Bertone (1936-47). The starting date of 1936 is because the chassis and driveline were derived from the 1936 Fiat 500 Topolino. Here is the story behind this very importand handmade car. The young son (Nuccio Bertone) of the Bertone founder bought a 500 with his own cash and worked with other two mechanics outside of business to build his personal racecar and this takes about 11 years to complete finally after the WW 2  at 1947! It was his first personal "racing" barchetta, with this car he started his racing driver career

Classic 1968 Maserati Mexico Seen at Museo dell' Automobile. Turin, Italy

Image
This is not a particularly well known or famous classic model by Maserati, but it just look gorgeous to me. Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 The Maserati Mexico (Tipo AM112) is a 4-seater grand touring coupé produced by Italian manufacturer Maserati between 1966 and 1972. It was based on the second series of the original AM107 Maserati Quattroporte, and it was powered by the same 4.2 and 4.7 L V8 engines. The Maserati Mexico's design derived from a 2+2 prototype bodywork shown on the Vignale stand at the October 1965 Salone di Torino and built upon a 4.9-litre 5000 GT chassis, rebodied after it had been damaged. As the car after the show was sold to Mexican president Adolfo López Mateos, the model became known as the Mexico. By coincidence, John Surtees won the Mexican Grand Prix on a Cooper-Maserati T81 the following year. Vignale's prototype was so well received that Maserati immediately made plans to put a versi...

Chevrolet Camaro 1968. Turin

A few days ago I saw this interesting car in Turin, Italy. This is an SS model, so the engine should be a V8 5.7 litres.  Here is a short video of the car:  http://youtu.be/h5qL7CCLHCY . Futher technical details can be found at:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Camaro_(first_generation)

The Arrogance of China's Oligarchs (in Hong Kong)

Image
Just spotted this car today in central Hong Kong. It is a Bentley Continental. Please note the two licence plates, one for Hong Kong and one for China and, most of all, that little red metal plate in the front. It identifies the owner as a member of the local Hong Kong Association of the Communist Party of China. The fact that an associate of the Communist Party, and therefore theoretically a servant of the heroic proletariat of China, is cruising around with a Bentley Continental seems a bit strange to me.

Lotus Evora GT4. Seen in Hong Kong. With "GT FOUR" Licence Plate

Image
There is a licence plate craze in Hong Kong.  This Lotus Evora GT4 has "GT FOUR" as licence plate. The fact is not totally smooth as the number 4 is considered unlucky by the Chinese, but maybe writing it in letters makes it more palatable. The web site of Lotus Cars is here:  http://www.lotuscars.com/gb/home
