Hong Kong. Wan Chai at night. Street Food stall and small restaurant.

Image
This place is in Wan Chai, at night the very centre of the red-lights district of Hong Kong, and during the day a busy office district.  The stall sells food 24 hours a day, all days of the year. No, I have not tried the stuff. It seems to me better to look at, rather than to eat.

Street Food in Hong Kong. "Gei Dan Chai" Waffle

Image
If you walk around the streets in Hong Kong anywhere you look you see a restaurant or a food stall.  Some stalls sell the "Gei Dan Chai" waffles, or "little chicken eggs". They bear this name because of their look. They are actually waffles, sugary and delicious. Here is a short video. This one is in Causeway Bay, on Hong Kong island. Here is another video of the same stall, made in 2006: http://youtu.be/8V8tUnC7KWQ And here are two other places where you can eat the same thing in other parts of the city: http://youtu.be/BEArTrXDiGQ http://youtu.be/jDIrkRJNfDA P.S. I am sorry for the definition of the last three videos, but when they were made this was the best YouTube could offer. The first video is in high definition.

Psychotic Window by Yayoi Kusama for Louis Vuitton

Image
Here are some photos of the windows displayed  in September and October 2012  in various cities  by shops selling Louis Vuitton products.  In my humble opinion, these windows are psychotic, packed full of sexual references and plainly pornographic, but  they are also interesting to watch. If the tentacles above and the colourful flowers below are not strong references to the male and female sexual organs, then I do not know what they are.  It also seems t he red colour everywhere  can be nothing else but blood. The designer of all these mess was Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese "Pop" artist. Some references can be found at these links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yayoi_Kusama http://www.yayoi-kusama.jp/e/information/index.html http://whitney.org/Exhibitions/YayoiKusama The obsession for representing her own image among tentacles and other very easy to decrypt sexual references is found elsewhere in many works by this artist ...

Hong Kong. Causeway Bay. The Fish Market. Chinese Food. Street Food

Would you buy FOOD from this man ? Hong Kong Street Food.

Image
Incredible but true, this guy with a cigarette burning in his mouth, no hat and no gloves, is selling non packaged food, and people are buying it from him. Health and safety regulations in Hong Kong must not be  enforced  really strictly, or they are very lax. The full video is here:  http://youtu.be/VluLdhfi98Q
