A note about the trend in the price of hotel nights in Bangkok, Thailand in the period 1991 - 2016

Image
A note about the trend in the price of hotel nights in Bangkok, Thailand in the period 1991 - 2016 The costs in of staying one night in a decent hotel in Bangkok, does not seem to have increased at all in the past 25 years. This notes considers the cost in US$ and hotels of similar quality. An hotel accommodation is the kind of service whose price is supposed to rise faster than commodities and other material goods but this does nit seem to have happened. The 25 year time frame is long enough to even out local economic fluctuations. In the image below  you can see the bill from my last stay in Bangkok. The hotel is the Grande Centre Point Ploenchit . It is a good hotel, but by no means very luxurious. The cost of a two nights stay was 7,194 Thai Bath equal to US$ 201.56 or US$ 100.50 per night. I remember paying 135.00 US$ to stay in a hotel of comparable quality in 1991. At the time this price did not seem particularly high. I have a clear recollection of th

Hong Kong Strange Food. The Dried Monk Fish. Tai O Village

Image
Tao O is a small village in the southern tip of Lantau Island, Hong Kong. In the street markets here, more than in any other part of Hong Kong, you can find the strangest sea creatures and fish sold. These sun dried monk fish looked like animals from another planet. I have no idea how to use them in the kitchen! Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 Tai O (Chinese: 大澳) is a fishing town, partly located on an island of the same name, on the western side of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. Geography On the southwest part of Lantau Island, a river splits to the north and west and at this fork lies the island referred to as Tai O. Two pedestrian bridges cross the river on its northern and western forks. The village is located mostly on the banks of the river. The western and northern parts of the island facing the South China Sea are uninhabited. History Stories that would be impossible to substantiate have Tai

Bentley Continental T Mulliner Seen in London for Gumball 2016, With a Funny Licence Plate....

Image
The Bentley Continental T or R was a large, ultra exclusive, luxury coupé made by Bentley from 1991 to 2003. It was the first Bentley to feature a body not shared with a Rolls-Royce model since the S3 Continental of 1965, the first to use the GM 4L80-E transmission, and the fastest, most expensive, and most powerful Bentley of its day. It was also the most expensive production car in the world at launch. A convertible derivative, the Bentley Azure, was launched in 1995 Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 The 6.75 L Garrett-turbocharged engine from the Bentley Turbo R was chosen for use in the Continental R. In early cars (1991 - 1993) power output of 325 hp (242 kW) at 4000rpm and peak torque of 450 lb·ft (610 N·m) at 2000rpm was available, although this was always estimated, as, at that time, Rolls-Royce still had a policy of not supplying official figures, preferring to describe simply as "adequate" or "suff

Ferrari F430 Scuderia Seen in Turin, Italy

Image
This F430 Scuderia is several years old, but it still look fresh, modern and gorgeous like it was new and just out of a Ferrari dealer. Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 430 Scuderia  Serving as the successor to the Challenge Stradale, the 430 Scuderia (scuderia meaning "stable of horses", but also used in the context of motor racing teams, including Ferrari's own) was unveiled by Michael Schumacher at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. Aimed to compete with cars like the Porsche RS-models and the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera (superleggera meaning super light weight), it is lighter (by 100 kg) and more powerful (503 hp) at 8500 rpm than the standard F430. Increased power comes from a revised intake, exhaust, and an ion-sensing knock-detection system that allows for a higher compression ratio. Thus the weight-to-power ratio is reduced from 2.96 kg/hp to 2.5 kg/hp. In addition to the weight saving measures, the

Classic Cars. Ferrari Dino 208 GT4 seen in Turin

Image
Nice classic Ferrari of the 1970s car seen on display in Turin city centre. Please see also my YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/user/settime2588 The Dino 308 GT4 and 208 GT4 (later Ferrari 308 GT4 and 208 GT4) were mid-engined V8 2+2 cars built by Ferrari. The Dino 308 GT4 was introduced in 1973 and supplemented by the 208 GT4 in 1975. The cars were sold with Dino badging (continuing the Dino brand to differentiate non-V12 Ferrari) until May 1976, when they received Ferrari badging. The GT4 was replaced by the Mondial 8 in 1980 after a production run of 2,826 308s and 840 208s.     The GT4 was a groundbreaking model for Ferrari in several ways: it was the first production Ferrari to feature the mid-engined V8 layout that would become the bulk of the company's business in the succeeding decades, and was the first production Ferrari with Bertone (rather than Pininfarina) designed bodywork. Pininfarina was upset by the decision to give cross-town rival
